Abstract

Introduction: The Explicit Health Guarantees Plan (GES) is crucial to the Chilean healthcare system, providing equitable access to treatment and diagnosis for various diseases, including cervical cancer (CaCu). Users' knowledge of this plan directly influences their access to care and the exercise of their rights. Significant gaps in knowledge and sources of information have been observed.

Objective: To investigate knowledge and sources of information regarding the GES in relation to CaCu among users of the polyclinic of the Cervical Pathology Unit of the Copiapó Regional Hospital during 2023.

Methods: A quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional design was used, with a convenience sample of 40 women admitted to the GES, who were given a 39-question questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Stata 15.0®.

Results: The majority of participants were 49 years old on average, resided in Copiapó, and were affiliated with FONASA. Sixty-five percent were in the follow-up stage and received information mainly from doctors and midwives. Although 80% were familiar with the concept of CaCu and 55% claimed to be familiar with the GES, 75% did not identify the stages it covers. Even so, 72.5% indicated that the deadlines had been met. Regarding complaints, 70% knew they could file them, but did not know where to do so, and only 17.5% said they would file complaints.

Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of strengthening the dissemination and understanding of the GES, ensuring that beneficiaries fully understand their rights and the stages of the care process.
