Alejandro Vergara has developed a conception of law along with an original formulation of the content and function of jurisprudence. This is a very promising approach and this paper examines it. It is postulated that Vergara's definition of the discipline presents some inconsistencies with his general reflections on the legal phenomenon. His jurisprudence seems to approach a conceptual and rootless analysis of the temporal and territorial context. Instead, it is proposed that the most consistent reading of Vergara’s legal ontology is a local and situated research, which investigates the legal culture that predominates in a specific community of interpreters.
