Abstract

Introduction: Regenerative procedures (REPs) in vital teeth promote dentinal sclerosis and stimulate the formation of reactionary tertiary dentin, recovering pulp vitality and allowing root development in teeth with open apex. REPs in immature necrotic permanent teeth allow the presence of stem cells, which are in the same tooth and the external contribution of scaffolds and growth factors to generate an increase in root length and thickness unlike conventional apexification treatment, enabling a better biomechanical behavior and with this a favorable prognosis for subsequent rehabilitation. Given the benefit that transcends the application of these techniques, it is essential to know how much dentists know about regenerative endodontic procedures, especially those who make endodontics a daily practice.

Objective: To know the level of knowledge that dental professionals have belonging to the Endodontic Societies of the national territory have about (REPs).

Materials and method: Cross-sectional observational study that was based on the application of a frequency survey of 17 closed questions through a "Google Form" to 100 dentists’ members of the Endodontic Societies of the Chilean territory.

Results: The percentage of surveys received did not reach the established sample size, since 51% of surveys were received from the proposed sample calculation. 15% of respondents identify REPs. The technique of regenerative endodontics in immature necrotic permanent teeth had a frequency of application of less than 10%. Respondents prefer it over an implant by 93%. The use of scaffolding was statistically significant, with platelet-rich fibrin as the first selection.

Conclusion: The level of knowledge about REPs is 15%. The perception of REPs is positive. Training on this type of procedure is required for the national dental community.
