La sensibilidad animal en la historia de la filosofía: ontología y ética

Resumen

La capacidad de los animales de sentir dolor es objeto de reflexión filosófica desde la antigüedad, y conlleva preguntas alrededor de qué es la sensibilidad, dónde se ubica en la estructura ontológica del mundo y cuál es su significancia en el discurso moral. La relevancia de estas preguntas y su vinculación mutua varía a lo largo de la historia de la filosofía: a partir de finales del siglo XIX, y en creciente medida durante las últimas décadas, el interés para la ontología de la sensibilidad animal ha sido sustituido por preocupaciones alrededor del valor moral del sufrimiento frente a otros marcadores de dignidad moral, como la racionalidad. Este artículo propone un recorrido histórico y un análisis comparado de las discusiones sobre sensibilidad animal en filosofía desde la antigüedad hasta la actualidad.
