The growing scientific production in Chile requires updated platforms for its proper bibliometric dissemination. This editorial describes the rationale and operational guidelines of Applied Sciences in Dentistry, an open-access publication focused on dental sciences and related disciplines. The methodological standardization policies adopted by the journal are outlined, which include the independent peer review system, adherence to the ethical guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and the integration of persistent identifiers (DOI). Additionally, the transition from the historical print format edited by the Universidad de Valparaíso to a digital management model is detailed. It is concluded that the scientific rigor and the significance of the published evidence depend directly on the mitigation of inbreeding practices, establishing the geographic diversification of authors and reviewers as an imperative requirement for the journal.
